Culture Cafe on DCUfm: Episode 45 10/02/2010

Episode 45! Hard to believe it really. It was good to be back on air on DCUfm and playing some new music. Tonight also featured an Interview with Teddy Thompson who I met three hours before his current tour started and Aine Duffy, who was kind enough to be on the pilot for Culture Cafe about two years ago. I also got the first play anywhere of Aine’s new single..

    Here’s what went down.

    1. DJ Flip & Freezemaster Slick: Crossroads

    2. Neon Trees: Animal

    3. The Naked and Famous: Punching In A Dream

    4. The Strokes: Under Cover of Darkness (Recommended Free Legal Download)

    5. Interview with Teddy Thompson

    6. Teddy Thompson: Looking For A Girl

    7. Jamie Lawson: Wasn’t Expecting That

    8. Interview with Aine Duffy

    9. Aine Duffy: I Don’t Think You’re Ready

    10. Funeral Party: Finale

    11. Peter Bjorn & John: Breaker Breaker

    12. Nero: Me & You

And it was done.. Thanks to Amy from Universal and Aidan from Goldenplec for setting up the Teddy Thompson interview. Thanks to Colin for uploading Nero In a hurry. It was nice to be back in the studio having a laugh and lovely to get your messages and tweets while on air.. Merci!

Tonight was the last show of 2010. in 15 months of Culture Cafe, we’ve done 44 shows. Absolutely amazing. Thanks to everyone who listened, was a guest, played a song, spoke to me on the phone, complained, loved it and hated it.

I normally have live acts in the studio, instead tonight I had to contend with fellow DCUfmers, Cian McMahon, Russell James, Dearbhla McCreesh and Cara Murphy. Loads of fun was had by all, it was one of those when we should have had a web cam going for what was not been said on air!

Here’s the official version of what happened:

    1. Crossroads: DJ Flip and the Freezemaster Slick
    2. Matt & Kim: Where You’re Coming From (This week’s Recommended Free Legal Download available from NME.com)
    3. Villagers: That Day
    4. Chat with Gavin Mee
    5. Gavin Mee: Cheekbones
    6. Chat with Conor Furlong who was at A-ha’s last gig in Oslo
    7. A-ha: Butterfly Butterfly
    8. Semi Precious Weapons: Semi Precious Weapons
    9. Chat with aidan
    10. aidan: West Cork Song
    11. Rubberbandits: Horse Outside
    12. Republic of Loose: Blah Bounce
    13. Wallpaper: Indian Summer

Culture Cafe will be back on DCUfm in the first week of February 2011.

Culture Cafe on DCUfm: Episode 42 – 25/11/2010

Episode 42. It’s almost December which means the goldfish bowl is getting a bit colder. Never mind that though, last night chat from Inculto and Pearse McGloughlin kept the temperature up!

    Here’s what happened:

    1. DJ Flip & Freezemaster Slick: Crossroads
    2. Fox Avenue: On My Own
    3. Beady Eye: Bring The Light
    4. Interview with Inculto including live tracks
    5. Inculto: Closer Than You Think(Live)
    6. Inculto: Close to Midnight (Live)
    7. Ou Est Le Swimming: The Key
    8. Interview with Pearse McGloughlin
    9. Pearse McGloughlin: Mercedes and The Kingfisher (Live)
    10. Pearse McGloughlin: Twine

And the time had past sooo quickly that we had to leave and let Enda get on with his Mixtape show, except we didn’t. We hung around the studio and had Album Avenue’s Colin Brennan get all Pearse’s trade secrets about songwriting. Fun times!
