  • Culture Cafe on RTE 2XM: Leszek Wolnik – 10 Weeks

Culture Cafe on RTE 2XM: Leszek Wolnik – 10 Weeks

This is the second of this week’s podcasts. I decided that this deserved a full unedited piece in its own right, aside from the radio show.

The two exhibitions which are currently running in The Copperhouse Gallery compliment each other beautifully. Emma Campbell’s ‘When they put out their hands like scales’, is a photographic exhibition which deals with the plight of women who have had to travel to the UK from Ireland for abortions. Running in conjunction with that is ’10 Weeks’ by Leszek Wolnik, this is centred around the moulds used to make the ’10 weeks’ pin used as a pro life symbol. The exhibition also has a multimedia element to it with visitors about to write their thoughts and also leave audio clips of their experiences and the experiences of their friends.

Culture Cafe isn’t a political show, I don’t want it to be. I chose to look at these exhibitions because through art, they look at the journeys women make and continue to make, the loneliness of that time and it gives those affected, themselves or their friends a chance to express these feelings, through writing or audio, as themselves or anonymously. This podcast includes an audio piece submitted by Deirdre McGing.

  • Culture Cafe on RTE 2XM 20/2/2013: Show 83

Culture Cafe on RTE 2XM 20/2/2013: Show 83

This week’s show is literally full to the brim. I chatted with Emily Elphinstone about the Collaborations Festival, James from Manchester band Delphic and I also spoke to Leszek Wolnik about two exhibitions running in The Copperhouse Gallery in Dublin. 10 Weeks and ‘When they put out their hands like scales’ both deal with plight of women who have traveled to the UK from Ireland for abortions. I’ve decided that I should include that in a podcast of it’s own, you’ll find it here.

In this podcast, you’ll hear me chat to Emily and to James, here’s the full list of what happened:

    1. DJ Flip & Freezemaster Slick: Crossroads
    2. Chat with Emily Elphinstone about Collaborations Festival
    3. Delpic: Baiya
    4. Chat with James from Delphic (Part 1)
    5. Delphic: Memo
    6. Chat with James from Delphic (Part 2)
    7. Delphic: Atlas
    8. Audio Piece Submitted by Deirdre McGing to 10 Weeks
    9. Chat with Leszek Wolnik (Part 1) about 10 Weeks and Emma Campbell’s When the put their hands out like scales.
    10. Ani DiFranco: Amendment
    11. Chat with Leszek Wolnik (Part 2)

Culture Cafe 83I really hope you enjoyed this week’s show, personally I’m not sure there’s anywhere else I’d be able to put together such a diverse show as this. It’s days like today, I have to thank RTE 2XM for the platform they have given me.

Thanks for listening, don’t forget you can listen to the full show again on the RTE Player. The show is broadcast every Wednesday at 1400 GMT and is repeated every Sunday at 2100 GMT. You can also subscribe to the Culture Cafe podcast on iTunes.

  • Culture Cafe on 2XM – Interview with Nick from WALK THE MOON

Culture Cafe on 2XM – Interview with Nick from WALK THE MOON

WALK THE MOON_bannerSo this week’s show literally was stuffed to the gills with great chats with Nick from WALK THE MOON and Ethan Johns, both acts coincidentally play in Dublin on February 22nd. WALK THE MOON play in The Academy while Ethan Johns plays in The Sugar Club. It was the kind of show that really makes me wish I had more than one hour a week on 2XM.

So because altogether there’s nearly 45 minutes of chat, I thought it would be easier for you, dear listener/reader if I made two podcasts, one with Ethan Johns and one with Nick Petricca from WALK THE MOON. So here’s the one with Nick, you can find my chat with Ethan Johns here.

I was asked to remove the other podcast by artist management so this is the only available podcast this week. It features Nick Petricca from WALK THE MOON, whom I managed to track down while on tour in Pittsburg.

    Playlist: 13/02/2013
    1. DJ FLip & Freezemaster Slick: Crossroads
