I was delighted to catch up with Cecily Maher from London Irish LGBT Network. They are a relatively new not for profit group who work to give a voice to the Irish LGBT community in London.

The London Irish LGBT Network are hosting their Christmas Jumper Party on December 16th at 8pm in the Phoenix Artist Club , 1 Phoenix St WC2H 8BU. It’s a free event so why not head along? Find out more on their website.

You can find out more on Twitter, Facebook and on their website.

    Kieran from Delorentos

I was lucky to get Kieran from Delorentos on the phone at all! I caught up with Kieran as the band were on tour in Berlin during the week. Unfortunately, we had serious problems trying to get decent phone reception. We managed to chat for a few minutes and when Delorentos are back in the UK in 2017, we’ll sit down and have a proper conversation.

The band play the Sebright Arms in London on Tuesday 13th December. You can follow them on Twitter, Facebook and their website.

I really enjoyed chatting both on air and off air to this week’s guests on the show.

Chris Anderson from elephants and castles

    elephants and castles nessymon

I’ve know Chris for about two years now. His mum is from Co Roscommon and along with his bandmate Robin Spencer, makes up elephants and castles. The Irish connection continues with Robin whose wife is from our lovely island.

I love elephants and castles tell stories. They look at the world around them, how neighbourhoods are changing, how life changes and incorporate that into their music. There’s not enough social commentary in music, if you ask me.

Their new EP ‘What’s Left for Larry and Janet?’ is out now and features the track ‘Red Lemonade’ which we’ve played on the show. They’re launching their EP in Deptford Cinema on December 4th, Get there if you can.

You can find elephants and castles on Facebook, Twitter and their website.

    Conor Scully’s Projections

Conor Scully is an Irish architect based in London. In this exhibition which opens on Thursday 8th December, he incorporates a 3D spaces with visual and audio projections to tell stories of the Irish diaspora from 1916 to now. Step forward, you move forward in time, step back, you move back in time. (We’re going to say it’s like time travelling)

Conor explained how he has incorporated industrial building materials to create this unique exhibition. Sound really interesting, I can’t wait to walk through the exhibition.

You can find Conor on Twitter and his website.

KT Sheeran chats about Irish RUN London

    irish-run-london-nessymon

I really like the idea of this. Lots of social events tend to be centred around the pub. Here, KT Sheeran, has come up with Irish Run London. A 5k run, or walk, around Hyde Park, a way of getting Irish people together, to have a chat a bit of banter and get a bit of fresh air too.

You don’t have to be mega fir either, as KT and her sister has devised a route for walkers also. The two groups then meet up at an end point and finish up with a new cuppa in one Hyde Park’s cafés.

    Sounds great!

Arveene Juthan chats about Deserted Island Discs

    mindyourself-deserted-island-discs

Deserted Island Discs is a project that Arveen has been involved with in conjunction with Mind Yourself, who help better the physical, mental, emotional & spiritual wellbeing of the Irish community in London.

For the project, Arveene spoke to Irish men who emigrated to London and these stories are back up by the music that has influenced their lives.

All this oral history conversations along with the musical choices have been turned into a special podcast series which is being launched on December 1st. Tickets to the night are free but need to be booked through Eventbrite. I’m really looking forward to this.

If you’re wondering about his name, the Kaneswaran name has been filling the Irish music scene for a number years now. Trevor’s sister, Hazel, was a member of Dove, while his brother, Siva, was a member of The Wanted.

You can find out more on Facebook, Twitter or on Trevor’s website

Trevor chats to us about his musical life in London, getting through to six chair challenge in this year’s X Factor and the advantages of not getting to the live shows and his plans for the future.
