Listen // Go Wolf – One More Night

One More Night is the new single from Belfast trio, Go Wolf, and it so right up my alley, any more so I’d be a dancer in the band!

One More Night is released on June 2nd and while the vocals do have a slight Killers’ element to them, Brandon Flowers wishes he could come up with something this danceable. The lads have already opened for The 1975, CSS and Wild Beasts and also played The Great Escape in Brighton. They’ll be doing their own tour around the UK later this year. Can’t wait for it.

The track was recorded by Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios and mastered by Robin Schmidt at 24-96 Mastering.

  • Tune of The Week 19/05/2014 // The Moulettes – Lady Vengeance

Tune of The Week 19/05/2014 // The Moulettes – Lady Vengeance

First time I heard this, I fell for the combination of dark indie and baroque pop, coming together for something extraordinary. And that’s before I even get started on the fantastic animated video that accompanies this track.

The Moulettes have been playing their brand of music together since 2002 and Lady Vengeance is taken from their third album ‘Constellations’ which will be out on June 2nd. Constellations will be the band’s first release on Navigator Records.

The album was recorded in and around Brighton and features some guests such as “legends Arthur Brown (“God of Hellfire”) and Herbie Flowers (Lou Reed/David Bowie) and contemporaries Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets), The Unthanks and Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls), Brighton dub troubadour Faye Houston and dubstep producer Mike Dennis (Dface)”. Quite an impressive line up!

The Moulettes themselves contain a pletora of self taught and classically trained musician and I think it’s this blend that gives them the range of influences which can be heard in their music.

The track also boasts a stunning animated accompaniment. I have to find out more about who made this, it’s fantastic. Check it out below!

Video // Buffalo Sunn – By Your Side

It seems like the change from Sweet Jane to Buffalo Sunn has done the band the world of good. Buffalo Sunn‘s latest release, ‘By Your Side’, seems to show the band comfortable in their own skins and effortlessly displaying their art.

A clever video accompanies the the track, which was directed by Daragh Murphy of November Seven Films. The Single is out on June 6th on Reekus Records.

By Your Side is taken from Buffalo Sunn’s album, ‘By The Ocean, By The Sea,’ is out later this year. You can hear me play the track on Wednesday on The London Ear at 2.

Diary // Wallis Bird at The Garage, London

Wallis Bird at The Garage, Highbury, London, May 11 2014

So last Sunday night, I headed along to catch Wallis Bird at The Garage in London. The night was opened by Rachel Ries who recently released her own album ‘Ghost of a Gardener’. Ries, who played electric guitar, was for the most part accompanied on keys by a gentleman with an Irish accent, but whose name escaped me. There was a little of her playing keys. but the fact that she played electric guitar seemed to take her out of the little female piano playing singer songwriter cage.

Architect is Wallis Bird’s fourth album and her most successful. This tour to support the album has seen more people than before come to see Wallis live. And it’s not surprising to see why. On record, Architect, is a fantastically accomplished piece of work, live, her enthusiasm for her music shines through, as does her honesty and authenticity. Bird and her band put on a great show, musicianship is tight and second to none but there’s also room for spontaneity. She plays tracks from her current album along with that of her older catalogue and it’s easy to see that belongs on stage.

Bird’s humour shines through on stage, yes she has some terrible jokes. Even though. when she speaks about more serious between songs, such as gender equality Bird lovingly refers to Jesus Sausage. (This is the night after Conchita Wurst’s win at Eurovision).

But the music speaks loudest of all and when you hear tracks like Communion, To My Bones, Hardly Hardly, Blossoms in the Street, I Can Be Your Man and Encore, it’s easy to see that Wallis Bird is one of the best artists of our generation. Great songs, great band, great stage presence, if you haven’t seen her live, you are doing yourself and injustice.
