The London Ear 355 – Interview with Áine Duffy

    Interview with Áine Duffy

I was delighted to catch up with Áine Duffy on this week’s episode of The London Ear. Áine is an amazing lady! She’s really talented singer songwriter who has been working as a full time musician for many years. She’s also a serious DIY enthuasist and during lockdown decided to take things into her own hands (literally) and build her own tiny home in Cork.

Now, this is something I am super interested in. I’d love to do a house conversion or build a tiny home and make it as green as possible. Sometimes though, when you’re looking at stuff online, it can all seem a bit daunting. Where do you even start? It was great to hear about Áine’s experiences. If building a tiny house wasn’t enough, Aine also converted a horsebox into the ‘Duffbox’, a mobile stage that has enabled her to play Covid safe gigs. The ‘Duffbox’ also doubles as a camper

I first met Áine in the late noughties but haven’t seen or spoken to her since then. I love how The London Ear enables me to catch up with people I knew before I moved to London, as well as being able to shine even a tiny light on people’s projects and art. Check out ‘I Don’t Think You’re Ready’ an awesome medley from 2011. I think it’s still a cracker!

If you’d like to find out more about Áine’s music you can check out her website, aineduffy.ie, Twitter, Facebook and Insta and you can also see her house in the TG4 feature below.

The London Ear with Nessy – Show 354

It was a great feeling to get back to making new radio shows for you. The choice of what to play is just enormous, I don’t think I’ll ever have enough time to play you all the music I want to on The London Ear.

This week seems to be a big one for the music industry here in the UK. Reading and Leeds kicked off last week but this weekend more smaller festivals are leading to more ‘normality’ in the music world. Hopefully Ireland will catch up soon.

I had lots to choose from on this week’s show, if you’re Irish and making music, make sure to put me on your press list. If you’re Irish, outside Ireland, and involved in music, arts or culture, do let me know. nessy at nessymon.com

The London Ear #353 – The Excellent 80s

The London Ear with Nessy // Show 353

I was really looking forward to sharing this with you. This is the music that really got me into wanting to learn and know more music and play it all the time. This was the music that I listened to so intently when I should have been studying in secondary school. This is when I started understanding that how instruments blended together, how you could manipulate where and how sounds came about. That might sound a bit dramatic but this is the era that made me fall in love with music.

I remember hearing a lot of these songs on pirate radio in Ireland in the 1980s. I remember hearing Dave Fanning and Gerry Ryan at night on RTE 2FM, introducing me to new sounds. I listened to that much music I wasn’t pigeon holed into just one genre or style. Every piece of music I found had been created for a reason, the lyrics, the melody, the bassline, the snare sound. And the more I noticed, the more I fell in love with the art of music.

Today, I’m delighted to share an hour of this music, an hour isn’t enough but it’s a glimpse into my teenage world.

The London Ear #352 – Old Skool and Anthems

    Old Skool and Anthems

Yes, I’m cool enough to spell it Old Skool. It’s Summer Season here on The London Ear and instead of burdening you with reruns of the programme, I thought it would be a great to share some great tunes of yesterday.

Today on the programme, it’s time to head to the late 80s / early nineties for old skool and anthems, dance, hip hop, rnb. The music that was playing in the clubs at the time.

These remind me of late nights, early mornings and lots of dancing! Hope you like it.
