I made a boo boo and forgot to tweet/Facebook about today’s show – Put it down to me being really important in my new job 🙂

On the show today, I chatted to Jim Lockey and to Julie Martin of The Would Be’s. This week’s featured album is Morcheeba with Head Up High, their eighth studio album.

Also with thanks to MCD, I have two tickets to give away to Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun this Friday night, September 27th, in the Academy 2 in Dublin. Not to confuse everything, I’ve details about the competition here.

    2. Laura Welsh: Undiscovered
    3. The Salt Flats: If You Leave
    4. Morcheeba: Gimme Your Love

Thanks for listening, really appreciate it. If you know an Irish band living or touring London / UK tell them to get in touch, I’d love to chat to them. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to enter the Jim Lockey Competition.

I’ve included a Soundcloud link to the show below, just as The London Ear is showing up under my old show name ‘Culture Cafe’ on the RTE player. This is for demonstration purposes only and no copyright breaches are intended. The file will be removed on Sep 28th.

Thanks for listening. Don’t forget the show is broadcast every Wednesday at 1400 and is repeated at 2100 on Sunday nights.

    Thanks for listening!

    Róisín O: Hold On (Video)

RoisinOThere aren’t many songs or voices that make me go Wow! This song is something really really special. It’s haunting, encouraging, sensitive and caring and comes from Róisín O. It beautifully tells of feeling the anguish of not being able to help someone close to you. Stunning.

The video directed by Simon Euctace was unveiled this week along with some other news.

Róisín has signed a record deal with JSM in Germany, and her debut album ‘The Secret Life of Blue’ will be released in Germany, Austria & Switzerland on October 4th. Nice work! She’s just back from the US and is about to head of on tour in Germany with Ryan Sheridan.

Róisin also plays her biggest headline show to date in Dublin with a show on October 18th in Whelans. Grab those tickets while you can!

Tune of the Week 22/09/2013: Bell X1 – Careful What You Wish For

BellX1_bannerBell X1 released a video for ‘Careful What You Wish For’ this week. If the song itself wasn’t gorgeous enough to warrant a Tune of the Week status, well, Myles O’Reilly‘s fantastically creative video to accompany the song.

It’s taken from the Bellies’ album Chop Chop which was released this Summer and, quite rightly, went to Number 1 in the Irish charts.

They’re going to be touring all over the place in the next while, with a string of dates in the US before coming to the UK in November. If, like me, you’re in London, you can catch them at Union Chapel on November 26.

Have a look, have a listen, you’ll easily see why ‘Careful What You Wish For’ is this week’s Tune of the Week.
