The release of The Late David Turpin‘s album is just around the corner and this week saw his new him announce a free download. ‘Emilie’ is a non album track from the sessions which spawned Turpin’s new album ‘We Belong Dead’, which I have to say I’m loving, review/feature coming soon so what this space.
‘Warning to the Curious’ is the second single taken from the album, keep an ear out for it. It will be released on August 16th and the album comes out in September. Production on the album is by the ever talented Steve Shannon and Emilie features top class musicians such as Gavin Glass, Cora Venus Lunny, Cathy Davey and Neil Dixon.
Is there no wrong that the sisters Haim can do? Well listening to ‘The Wire’ the new single from Danielle, Alana and Este, the answer is a resounding ‘No’. The track starts with a drum beat which closely echos the Eagles’ Heartbeat Tonight.
Haim know how to write a great pop song and The Wire is no different, incorporating beautiful synthy sub bass, cute guitar licks and strings as the track progresses and breaks down, they still display their trademark harmonies. There’s a little run at the end too reminds me of Nenah Cherry’s Buffalo Stance.
Their debut long player is due for release later this year, they are getting better and better with each release, the record should completely explode.

There was only ever going to be one choice for me, for this week’s Tune of the Week. I absolutely adored The Naked and Famous‘ album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’, and I loved seeing them live.
Over the past while, on Instagram, the band have been giving hints that their new album was almost ready and just last week posted the words ‘Hearts Like Ours’ with the caption “New song. #album2 #watchthisspace”.
Well, we didn’t have to wait long, ‘Hearts Like Ours’, is the track track we’ve heard from the New Zealanders’ second album ‘In Rolling Waves’ which will be out on September 13th was recorded in Los Angeles. The album was produced by Thom Rogers and Aaron Shortt from the band and Justin Meldal-Johnsen (NIN, M83). ‘Hearts Like Ours’ continues where ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ left off and has been on constant rotation since I heard it last week.

The Lone Ranger movie hits our screens on August 9th and in the run up to the release. John Reid stars at The Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp is his spirit warrior companion Tonto. The film has been produced by Jerry Brockheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski who together brought us Pirates of the Caribbean.
Earlier, Depp told BBC breakfast that he may quit acting. I’d love to see Depp step away from the big blockbusters and do a couple of indie films so we can see more than the caricature of himself that he has become thanks to the blockbusters, oh and Tim Burton. You can have a look at a featurette for The Lone Ranger below.
Anyway, William Tell Overture has been remixed by Future Cut, the UK production team who have been working with Stooshe and Paper Crows. It’s available for FREE DOWNLOAD from Soundcloud below or here if you’re on a mobile device.
The full soundtrack will be available on Walt Disney Records.
