The London Ear // Show 337

The London Ear on RTÉ 2XM // 337

Welcome to this week’s episode of The London Ear, for today’s show, I have an hour of brand new music for you, from Ireland and beyond.

I love chatting to guest every week on the show but sometimes it’s great to be able to share a full hour of music with you. I guess, really, music is the reason a lot of people get into radio to start with. Sitting in your bedroom as a kid, definitely in a time before streaming services, loving a certain song and willing the radio DJ to play it. Magic!

Hopefully, even one person will feel like that about some of the music I’ve played on this week’s show.

The London Ear 336 // Twin Diver In Conversation

    In Conversation with Twin Diver

Hello! Happy Easter and all that. Welcome to episode 336 of The London Ear where I’m joined by those loveable scamps, Twin Diver.

From the opening notes of ‘Television’, I loved Twin Diver’s sound. Even though the this is the duo’s first single, the experience they’ve gained in their previous musical exploits gave shone through. The pair have honed their sound beautifully. And it all came together in lockdown.

Ben and Jonathan are from Ballivor in Co. Meath, not too far away from where I’m from. They’ve also spent time in South East London, so we had lots to chat about. Unfortunately, the situation for the pair changed when Covid-19 hit, leaving them to move back to Ireland for a bit. So, they are hoping to return to London in the future.

We had a great chat about their sound, songwriting and their progression as musicians. It will be really interesting to see what happens for the lads. ‘Television’ is a great way musical debut. The hard work starts now to follow it up.

You can find out more about the band here on their Linktree or on their Insta page

The London Ear 335 // David Turpin – The Winter Lake

The London Ear // David Turpin – Writer of The Winter Lake

Today’s show was the last to be broadcast on DAB in Ireland and I was delighted to be joined by screenwriter David Turpin. I remember just before I moved to London, sitting in Trinity College, speaking to David for what was then, Culture Café. I told him about my move and how I was thinking of changing the name of the radio show to The London Ear. He approved. The London Ear was born.

Here’s a little bit more info about the move to to online.

I’ve spoken to David Turpin a couple of times on the radio over the years. He’s a talented creative who by day is a screenwriter and by night, makes music under the guise, The Late David Turpin.

Regarding his film work, I previously spoke to David in relation to his first film, The Lodgers, which was also produced by Tailored Films in Ireland.

The past year has been difficult for the arts, the film world included. We spoke about those trials, including the new ways of releasing films. We also spoke about David’s days on the set of The Winter Lake.

The Winter Lake is now available to buy/watch on demand on your favourite streaming service. You can find out more about David Turpin on his website.
