Finally, a Christmas song that speaks the truth. Here’s the new one from Dropkick Murphys, it pulls no punches and merrily speaks of the horrors of Christmas. No, I’m not a fan of December 25th.
‘The Season’s Upon Us’ is taken from their new album ‘Signed and Sealed in Blood’, which is out on January 4th. Catch them in Vicar St in January for a pair of dates on 12th and 13th.

One album I’m looking forward to in 2013 is the debut from Bastille. ‘Bad Blood’ will be released in March and Dan Smith and his band will tour across the UK in Ireland in support of the release.
In the meantime, we have been gifted with Other People’s Heartaches Pt 2, the second mixtape from Bastille, following, you guessed it, Other People’s Heartaches. I’m going to be honest, since I started listening to this, I haven’t stopped smiling. Within the mixtape we are treated to what I can only describe as a tetris version of Adamski’s Killer, a reworking of TLC’s No Scrubs and Frank Ocean’s Think Bout You, all wrapped up with movie snippets.
There should be a award of some sort for one particular track. It is now apparent why Dan’s hair always stands on end, he’s a mad professor! I’m not sure anyone else would have ever thought of doing a cover/mashup of Tina Turner’s ‘Private Dancer’ and Rozalla’s ‘Free’. Check out ‘Free’ for proof.
The whole thing is finished off with a festive ‘O Holy Night’. This is packed with enough warm fuzzy goodness to get you through the Winter until Bad Blood is released in the Spring and some fantastic production for your pleasure. Do yourself a favour, download it now!
Update: You can’t download Other People’s Heartache Part 2 anymore but here’s a YouTube playlist for you.
So it actually happened. Sometime in the middle of the night during the 121212 Concert for Hurricane Sandy Relief, Paul McCartney joined Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Nirvana’s second guitarist Pat Smear, onstage in Madison Square Gardens. McCartney introduced the trio onstage for a rendition of ‘Cut Me Some Slack’.
Also playing at the event, before I fell asleep, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder and The Rolling Stones. The concert is streaming below, I’m going to watch what I didn’t get to see last night which includes Chris Martin and Michael Stype, together, The Who nad Kanye West.
Here’s Macca and Nirvana:
