  • Tune of the Week 01/07/2012: Bastille

Tune of the Week 01/07/2012: Bastille

bastilleEvery week I choose one song to be Tune of the Week, this week it’s a little bit later than usual. This week’s Tune of the Week comes from Bastille, who I had the pleasure of chatting to Dan the last time they were in town. The interview will be up here in full shortly (damn college work being a pain).

Anyway, great guys, great song. Trivia for you, the band is called Bastille because Dan’s birthday is July 14th and in school, his teacher used to go a bit mad saying ‘Bastille Bastille’, when the schoolkids would be talking about their birthdays! Catch Bastille in the Academy 2 on October 11th. Here’s Bad Blood!

Freshly Squeezed Film Festival is an International Student Short Film festival and takes place at The Screen Cinema in Dublin on July 7th and 8th.

What are you going to get? Seven hours of short films from students around the world and a two day pass costs a very student friendly €7 and €9 for everyone else. Awesome!

  • Muse: Survival (Official Olympics Song)

    Muse: Survival (Official Olympics Song)

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a hologram of Freddie Mercury? Er no, it’s Matt Bellamy and cohorts with the official Olympics anthem that seemingly pays homage to Queen. If you get The Show Must Go On and add a dash of We Are The Champions/Bohemian Rhapsody and Freddie’s Barcelona and you have ‘Survival’. And to be honest, this isn’t too bad for a track for something official such as the Olympics. I love the prelude, the track has just enough cheddar to cover the event and a great rhythm for an opening ceremony firework display to match.

EDIT: The IOC have just released this video July 4 2012 – The Countdown is on!
