    The Shoos: Say Something Review

TheShoos‘Say Something’ is the new single from The Shoos and is released on their own label ‘The Shoos Records’. It’s a brave move for the band as they were with Universal in Ireland for a spell and also headed to the U.S. last year as big money and investment was about to come their way.

‘Say Something’ lyrically gives a glimpse into what happened at the time describing it as ‘all we heard was yes.’ The track builds nicely to the chorus and lead singer, Tex’s raspy vocals, make it seem that this is a new step forward for the band, such is the belief and the passion. The track was recorded live and was mixed by Joe Zook who has also worked with Modest Mouse, One Republic and Katy Perry.

‘Say Something’ is a grower but once you hear it a couple of times, you’ll be singing along. This is a really good platform for The Shoos to re-establish themselves, their way. Fair play, their hearts are on their sleeves.

Guns n’ Roses: Live at The 02, Dublin, Review

Following Guns n’ Roses September 2010 gig, where after a long wait for the band, someone threw a bottle and Axl left the stage, this gig seemed like it was a last chance for the GnR on our shores. Putting it nicely, Axl pissed off a hell of a lot of punters. This was a make or break gig and ended up being one of the best rock performances I have ever seen. The music started at 1930 with Vengeance and The Panther Queen followed by Thin Lizzy. They left the stage about 21.20 and the audience had to wait an hour before Axl & Co. hit the stage. I left the venue at about 120 am after three hours of the best rock music around. You can read all about my adventures on Goldenplec.

    Enjoy the video!

  • Free Music Monday 21/05/2012: Tara Kennedy

TaraKennedyIt’s just over a year since I first bumped into Tara Kennedy. She was performing in The Ramor Theatre in Virginia in Co. Cavan at the Each Small Candle launch. As soon as Tara took to the stage, she filled the auditorium with an energy and a maturity that other performers on the night lacked. She easily stole the show and she didn’t seem to know how good she was.

Fast forward and Tara now has recorded a collection of demos ‘Fight or Flight’, just herself and her guitar. Still, at just 18, she’s an amazing talent and has a really bright future ahead.
