  • Fiona Looney’s Greener: Rehearsals start today!

GreenerToday sees the first rehearsals for Fiona Looney’s new play ‘Greener’, which will have its World Premier on May 1st at The Gaiety Theatre.

Here’s the blurb and booking details:

Six years ago, Pauline McLynn and Deirdre O’Kane played best friends and neighbours pulling up ‘Dandelions’ in Fiona Looney’s smash-hit debut comedy.

‘Greener’ reunites the two actresses in a gloriously funny, heartbreaking new play which is the third and final instalment in a trilogy of plays by Looney which included ‘Dandelions’ and ‘October’ starring Victoria Smurfit.

‘Greener’ features an all star cast of actors known both on stage and on screen. Joining PAULINE MCLYNN (‘Father Ted’, ‘Shameless’) and the award-winning actress and comedienne DEIRDRE O’KANE (‘Paths to Freedom’, ‘My Brilliant Divorce’) will be LORCAN CRANITCH best known for his role as ‘Cracker’, DECLAN CONLON (‘The Tudors’, ‘Raw’) and making his debut on the Gaiety Stage, rising star RYAN ANDREWS (‘Fair City’, ‘The Clinic’). • Free Music Monday March 26 2012: Knots

KNOTSI heard this E.P during the week and cropped up again on Facebook yesterday. After delving in to see who these guys are, I’ve found out that KNOTS stands for King’s Now On The Stage, a three piece Dublin based band who formed in January of this year. So getting this EP out already is a decent feat. A little birdy, though, told me that these guys were previously in a band called Nation of the State.

It was recorded with Ger McDonnell and shows the trio to be competent musicians who know how to write a good song. I like the use of some samples in there, would like to hear more of that, I’m looking forward to seeing how these guys grow and develop and differentiate themselves from the herd.

  • Tune of The Week 22/03/2012: Plan B

plan_b_ill_manorsI honestly can’t remember the last time I pre-ordered a single on iTunes, I’m not sure I ever have. Last night at 23.03, I got an email reminder that my preorder was now available to download. I’ve been playing this all week on YouTube and played it from YouTube on DCUfm last night.

This new track from Plan B is the cleverest amalgamation of music and words I have heard in a lot time. The rawness of the vocals, the pops of the plosives on the mic, make this so real. Yes, it’s a social commentary and there are some who will take the words out of context and Ben Drew probably will get the blame and be told he’s inciting riots himself. Cop on and read his words. Some one needs to hold a mirror up to society. I’m also looking forward to the film. It looks set to continue the gritty London we have previously seen in Noel Clarke‘s films. You have to respect someone who has gotten off his ass and got two separate careers, one in music and one in film off the ground. Hat’s off to Mr Drew!
