  • Play On, The Dublin Theatre Festival Playwriting Initiative

This arrived in my inbox and I thought it was quite interesting, especially for all my writer friends.

Here’s what you need to know:

The Dublin Theatre Festival Playwriting Initiative, Play On was launched today. This new initiative aims to be a catalyst for the next generation of playwrights in Ireland, setting out to find playwrights with a distinctive voice, vision and style, seeking innovation in subject and form and encouraging the writing of original new plays.

The Festival is now inviting applications from next-generation playwrights from Ireland or resident in Ireland. Applicants should send one contemporary stage play (produced or unproduced, short or full-length, or even just the first scene) as a sample of their work to the Dublin Theatre Festival (details below). • Interview with artist Daragh Hughes

Daragh Hughes By Eoghan BarryDaragh Hughes’ first major exhibition ‘Black and White‘ will take place in the Sebastian Guinness Gallery in Dawson Street Dublin from March 23 – April 22. I might add that the exhibition space is amazing, if you think of some movie artists’ work shop and multiply its size by ten, you’re in the right ballpark. Really loved the natural feeling of the lighting in the gallery.

Some of the pieces are so big, he has moved his workspace into the exhibition space to paint them. His is our chat about his work. oh, check out the tumblr site for the exhibition.

  • Tune of The Week 02/03/2012: Funeral Suits

FuneralSuitsI really like Funeral Suits, I’ve seen them live a few times now and they just seem to get better and better. This week’s Tune of the Week is their new single ‘All My Friendly People’ and is released on March 19th.

The video was directed by Shaun Ryan and a shout out must go to Director of Photography Kevin Minogue. Lovely direction, beautiful shots and grading. Yummy!

  • The Guardian: Three Little Pigs

theguardianThis is one of the best ways I’ve seen anybody explain how news gathering and social media are amalgamating. Really clever, it really not only shows what The Guardian does but how different news outlets are using news. In reality, every journalist is a multimedia journalist now, with their new reports, features visuals and audio able to cross broadcast mediums. Awesome!
