  • Ireland’s Eurosong 2012 – The Predictions

RTE-Eurosong-2012Less than an hour to kick off, this year’s Eurovision entry for Ireland will be chosen on tonight’s Late Late Show. You can check out who thought what on Goldenplec. Really enjoyed writing my little bit on each. Will be interesting if the terrible twosome of Jedward will actually have any competition at all. Anyone see the mobs of teenage girls at the weekend in Dublin chanting ‘Vote Jedward’?

    Place your bets now!

  • Tune of The Week 24/02/2012: Caan

CaanIf there was any way i could I would be in Islington in London on February 29th for, what I consider, an amazing line up. The brilliant Alex Clare will join Caan for what is set to be a jolly good show at XOYO. They will also be joined by Go Sees.

Caan’s single ‘Every Little Thing’ is released the following day, March 1st and Ghosts is the B-side. Think it’s familiar? This is a cover of the Japan song from 1983. He will perform this track live for the first time accompanied by a string quartet at XOYO. Anyone want me to go review it for them?

  • Good Cake, Bad Cake – The Story of Lir (Video)

GoodcakeBadCakelirYesterday, a promo clip for ‘Good Cake, Bad Cake – The Story of Lir’ went on YouTube. This documentary is directed by Shimmy Marcus (Headrush, Aidan Walsh, Master of the Universe) and looks at Dublin band Lir and their ambitions in the early nineties. Even if you can’t remember Lir, you’ll know some of its members including Ro Byrne, Colm Quearney, cornerstones of the Irish music scene.

Strange fact, I went to the Senior College in Ballyfermot way back when and recorded a voiceover demo in Lir’s manager Sean Hayes’ studio in Trim in County Meath. He did an interview with me for it too. Must dig it out! Anyway this film is going to be a must watch for any lover of the Irish music scene.
