  • National Youth Orchestra of Ireland at The Helix

National Youth Orchestra of IrelandWhat better way is there than to spend the first official Bank Holiday of the year, listening to the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland? None. Being in The Helix for this made me realize two things, I don’t listen to enough classical music and these young musicians are the biz, they are quite literally staggeringly talented.

The sheer magic at the beginning of an orchestra recital always gets me. The members tune up their instruments and we hear all the squeaks. Seconds later on the Conductor’s order, they combine for the sweetest of sounds.

THe young musician’s recited Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito before they were joined by Cello maestro Brian O’Kane for Bruch’s Kol Nidrei. Amazingly good and modernizing the image of Classical music, Mr O’Kane looks like he could step right into any rock band. (more…)

  • Free Music Monday 02/01/2012: Dizzee Rascal (DirteeTV.com Mixtape)

DIRTEETV.comWhat a great way to start 2012. Dizzee Rascal kicks the year off in style with the release of a free mixtape to promote the launch of his own online video channel, DirteeTV.com. The 25 track mixtape features Example, Kano and Westwood and Zane Lowe drop in too. Really liking it after a first listen and wouldn’t be surprised if a version of ‘Catch Me If You Can’ was released officially at some stage. The whole thing was mixed by DJ MK of Kiss 100.

To get your copy of ‘DirteeTv.com The Mixtape’ all you have to do is sign up here. Get it while you can, great way to start the year. Dizzee’s fifth album should be out later this year but in the meantime here’s a reminder of the best song of 2009.

    George Michael Symphonica Dublin 2011

In November I had the pleasure of chatting with Lucy Jules and Shirley Lewis, (@GMSingers) two of George Michael’s backing singers while they were here in Dublin during the Symphonica Tour. Quite a kick for me, the interview was broadcast on Culture Cafe on RTÉ 2XM on November 9th.

  • The day that the TwitterXmasSingle was recorded, I went in and spoke to some of the people involved. Hopefully this captures the atmosphere of the day. I decided to put it on YouTube as it is about to be taken down from the RTÉ player. Enjoy and do let me know if you’re one of the people I spoke to.
