  • Lethal Dialect: LD50 Part 2 (Album Preview)

lethal dialectDublin rapper, Lethal Dialect is wasting no time and gearing up for the release of LD50 Part 2 in 2012. The first album was released earlier this year and I had the pleasure of having Lethal Dialect and his collaborator Costello in for a live session in February DCUfm when Culture Cafe lived there. Awesome session, must put it online.

LD is again working with G.I. and Jonnyboy and has guests Costello, Mouse, Tommy Hand and Wila Lee on the album. Absolutely loved the first album, going on this preview, the second one looks to shine as bright.

  • DJ Earworm: United State of Pop 2011 (World Go Boom)

DancersCliff1920I have been looking forward to this since December hit, DJ Earworm’s mash up of USA’s Top 25 tracks of the year. Loving it! You can get a full list of who’s included and a download from here.

DJ Earworm has said on his YouTube channel ‘It doesn’t match Billboard’s year-end list, since I’m basing it off of the weekly lists this year. This allows me to include big hits from the last portion of the year, which have always been noticable absent. Because of the Billboard’s early cut off date and their emphasis on chart longevity, songs that are released in the last four months of the year are either split between the two years or moved to the next year, even though the song was most popular during this year. I also don’t want a track appearing two years in a row just because it happened to be peaking right at the cutoff date. From my perspective, a song belongs in the year it peaked, not the year it ended its run.’

  • Free Music Monday 26/12/2011: Until The Ribbon Breaks

utrbvol1This year I had the fortune to interview some amazing people including Pete Lawrie who released his debut album, ‘A Little Brighter’.

Pete likes releasing mixtapes and showing people what other kinds of things he does too, so he has decided to release ‘Until The Ribbon Breaks Vol. 1’. You can get it directly below or you can go tountiltheribbonbreaks.tumblr.com

  • Festive Salutations!

christmas-treeTis the season to be jolly… just a quick message on this Christmas Eve/about to be Christmas Day. I’m sitting here watching Take That’s Progress Live. Personally, it was the best weekend of the year. The Take That gig was a goal we reached, passed and became a measuring stick for our year. For those of you who don’t know me personally, it may be a bit cryptic but all you need to know is to treat everyday as it may be your last, surround yourself with people you love and people who love you. Live life to the full.

Thanks to everyone who has read a blog post this year, liked what I wrote or thought it was shite, listened to a radio show or podcast. To all the bands I’ve interviewed, thank you so much. I got a chance to chat to some wonderful people including Patrick Wolf, Miles Kane, The Charlatans, BellX1, Ronnie from The Killers and I’m thrilled to see bands like Twin Atlantic starting to get the recognition they deserve. To all the people in the arts world, thank you, without your contributions, Culture Cafe wouldn’t exist. And it was such a kick for me to get to get to chat with Lucy Jules and Shirley Lewis, two of George Michael’s backing singers. Lovely people and its nice to know your hero is a nice guy.

Have a great Christmas, lets get 2012 by the scruff of the neck and kick it into shape..
