  • Are you 18-22: Want to be in a movie ?

movie-film-cameraWho hasn’t wanted to be in a movie? Er, no one! Well if you’re aged between 18-22 now’s your chance!

Here’s what you need to know:

WHAT RICHARD DID is a low-budget feature film to be directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Adam and Paul, Prosperity, Garage) this September and October. Shooting takes place for 5 weeks in Dublin 4, Dublin City Centre, Brittas Bay and County Wicklow. The film will be produced by Element Pictures (The Guard and The Wind that Shakes the Barley).

The story follows a group of friends over the course of the summer following their Leaving Cert exams, in particular “Richard”, a popular, school sports star with great prospects until one night his life is changed forever.

The ensemble main cast, aged between 17 and 20, have been workshopping the script since last November with Lenny and writer, Malcolm Campbell. (more…)

  • Tune of The Week 02/09/2011: Liz Lawrence

Last night I managed to see Liz Lawrence for the second time in The Sugar Club in Dublin (accompanied by Harry on the cajon and backing vocals), the first time she was opening for Brooke Fraser, the second for The Civil Wars.

When I was deciding what Tune should be this week’s Tune of The Week, the OH said ‘oh that Monday Morning song by Liz Lawrence’. Good choice, great song and here’s the best video I could find for it. Enjoy!

  • Dreamboats and Petticoats at The Gaiety: Review

Dreamboats-and-PetticoatsThe mood was building in The Gaiety before the curtain was raised thanks to the sounds of early sixties music. With a musical that was born from a musical compilation series, Dreamboats and Petticoats immediately had the audience on its side, thanks to the familiarity of the tunes.

Within moments of the cast coming on stage, the energy and talent that oozed from the stage was nothing short of brilliant.

Telling the story of Bobby’s (David Ribi) quest to get the band and the girl over his competitor Norman (Ben James-Ellis), Dreamboats and Petticoats shows us a slightly more innocent time The story-line and songs performed, all live on stage by the actors, intertwine seamlessly and the clever set design truly places you in early sixties. A screen with early sixties adverts is raised and lowered to reveal a full band. I never thought I’d see dodgems (or good ole bumping cars like we called them) on stage at The Gaiety.

  • Florence + The Machine: What The Water Gave Me (video)

Who doesn’t love Florence & The Machine? This is the first glimpse of what’s to come from the new album due for release on November 4th (which is the week before my birthday so guess what I’ll be getting) oh by the way I’m liking how VEVO have also added a QR code in the share options.
