  • Engage Arts Festival, Bandon

engage_logoIt’s great to see so many cultural events happening and here’s an event I hadn’t heard of before.

Taking place over 22nd-26th of September the Engage Arts Festival takes place in Bandon, Co. Cork, which coincidentally crosses over Culture Night. The festival will highlight contemporary music, visual arts and literature. Things to watch out for include electronica from Crash Ensemble, exhibitions from artist Clare Langan, readings from Philip Ó Ceallaigh and the premier of a new play ‘Voices From The Cailleach’, written by Paula McGlinchey.

It’s pretty cool too that as most of us have very little spare cash at the moment, 80% of the event will be free of charge.

In advance of the Festival, a fundraising concert will be held on Friday, August 26, at 8 pm in St Peter’s Church, Bandon, featuring Honor O’Hea and Robert Andres, a piano duo from Ireland and Croatia.

  • Competition: Win Tickets to Dreamboats and Petticoats at The Gaiety

Dreamboats and petticoatsThe lovely people at The Gaiety Theatre have given me two tickets for one lucky reader to Dreamboats and Petticoats on August 30th in The Gaiety Theatre Dublin.

The competition will run until Friday August 26th at 3pm and judges decision is final. All you have to do is leave a comment below telling me what your favourite song is from the late 50s/early sixties and go on like my Facebook page.

The musical tells the story of two musicians trying to win a National Song Competition but it seems the ladies make the pair get a little sidetracked. It features songs from Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, Chuck Berry and many more, including Let’s Dance, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Shaking All Over, Bobby’s Girl, Little Town Flirt , Only Sixteen, Sleepwalk, Runaround Sue, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, What A Wonderful World, Let’s Twist Again, Let It Be Me and many more hits from music’s golden era!

    Bon Chance!

  • Tune Of The Week 19/08/2011: Brett Anderson

In May this year, I was delighted to be able to see Suede in The Olympia, they put on an amazing show and Brett Anderson showed he was a fantastic frontman, without even uttering a word to the audience. Brett’s fourth solo album ‘Black Rainbow’ is out on September 26th and ‘Brittle Heart’ is the first single from it.
