  • Dreamboats and Petticoats at The Gaiety

Dreamboats and PetticoatsI am really looking forward to this, Dreamboats and Petticoats, The Musical is on tour across the UK and Ireland this Autumn stopping off at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre from August 10th to September 10th.

This musical was seemingly born from a series of compilation albums which topped the charts, featuring the songs of Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, The Shadows and Eddie Cochran.

It follows the story of two budding musicians trying to win a national song competition and was written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, the team behind Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds of a Feather, The New Statesmen and Shine On Harvey Moon so you know there is going to be quality writing in there. It’s directed by Bob Tomson and musical supervision is by Keith Strachan. (more…)

  • Red State hit screens on September 30th

REDSTATEKevin Smith‘s tenth film hits screens here on September 30th. While most of us will know Smith for Clerks,Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob, Red State though, is a little bit different.

Red State looks to be a thriller with a slight claustrophobic feeling, set around a trio of teenagers who respond to an invitation for online sex. They end up getting a little more than they bargained for as they face death at the hands of Christian extremists.. If Tarantino says it’s good, we’re in for quite a ride.

Culture NIghtToday I had the pleasure of attending the launch of Culture Night earlier today in Dublin Castle. Minister Jimmy Deenihan who is Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht did the honours of launching the event.

The night will take place on Friday September 23rd and will take place across Ireland as well as in London and Leuvan in Belgium. A new website was also launched today culturenight.ie You can also find the guys on Facebook and Twitter.

Culture Night is a great chance to find out about free events that are happening in your area and it’s a chance to go have a look at or try something you wouldn’t normally do! Check out my post about my visit to Croke Park on Culture Night 2009

Today was a great opportunity to meet up with people from Arts Offices around the country and hopefully it will be the start of many great relationships with them. No doubt, you’ll hear some of the people I’ve met on Culture Cafe over the coming weeks.

Minister Deenihan praised Temple Bar Cultural Trust and mentioned that Temple Bar area has now become the buzzing cultural centre as was intended. He also made the great point that Ireland’s arts culture and heritage were now the vital things to attract tourists.
