  • Saw Doctors: Be Yourself Release and Free Gig This Weekend

Saw Doctors Be Yourself‘Be Yourself’ is the third single to be taken from ‘The Further Adventures of…’ and will be released on July 8th. It’s a midtempo track with all the trademarks of the Tuam band.

The Saw Doctors have a bit of a knack for a couple of things one of them in particular shines through on this tracks. Through their lyrics, they seem to be able look at the smaller picture of life, the little things (which turn out to be big things) and here this enables them to deliver a parently type of advice.

Hear this a couple of times, you’ll be singing it all day!

The band have also announced a series of gigs around Ireland for the remainder of 2011, starting off with two FREE gigs!! Dublin is first up with a gig this Sunday, June 19th in the Dublin Civic Offices. It’s part of the Mayo Alive Festival and did I say it’s Free?

The second one is on June 26th in Enniscorthy Co.Wexford, part of the Wexford Strawberry Fest.. That’s a Free gig too! What more could you want? After seeing the band earlier this year in The Olympia, I can tell you, you’re in for a good time.

  • Stellarsound remixes Carosel

caroselThe ever talented Steve from Stellarsound has remixed one of my favourites, Carosel.

‘Take Me’ was originally on the duo’s ‘Star’ E.P. You can see and acoustic version of the track performed live here.

Pete McGrane and Michelle Phelan are originally from Ireland but left our rainy climes to strike it out in France and fair play! Things seem to working out!

I really like the remix, it’s spacious and a little gritty at the same time.

  • Take That: Progressed Review

Take That ProgressedIt’s not too surprising that Take That have chosen to release Progressed as a two disc edition rather than a brand new separate release. Just as the original five get back together on tour for the first time in fifteen years, the two disc edition is a nice little shot in the arm for the fastest selling album of the century. Plus every die hard fan will want it.

Lead single from ‘Progressed’ is ‘Love Love’, taken from the soundtrack to ‘X Men: First Class’, a little bit gritty and electro than a lot of Take That’s previous releases.  While lead single from ‘Progress’, stayed pretty much in line with what the group had released with Beautiful World and The Circus, you can hear a more electro Robbie Williams influence here.  Even the production on Don’t Say Goodbye has a certain Pet Shop Boys vibe.

‘Man’ is an interesting, a dance track with a phat bass, it features vocals and a vibe that will bring die hard fans straight to the early ‘Do What You Like’. The Mark Owen led ”The Day the Work is done’ is a decent mid tempo track, while the thumping ‘Beautiful’ reminds me The Killers/Brandon Flowers.

To these ears, Love Love is the best of the eight tracks. If Take That were to push another track from Progressed, it would probably be the nostalgic ‘When We Were Young’, which would be ideal to close the Progress chapter.

Every fan will buy it and it will be probably be number 1 by the end of the week. (more…)
