  • The Future Shape of Sound: Thinking Bad Thoughts Review

Thinking Bad ThoughtsThinking Bad Thoughts is the new single from London based ‘The Future Shape of Sound’. On a first listen, TFSOS sound somewhere Mudbone and Republic of Loose. They have a slick funky, retro feel, helped on by the male/female vocal duel between Big Daddy Kai and Nomtai Mabo.

Addictive drumbeats and 1960’s Northern Soul vibe make it impossible not to dance to this. It’s a little bit gritty, just like it should be. While the track has a retro feel it’s unmistakably contemporary. It’s excellently produced by Alex McGowan and features The Vaccines’ Arni Hjorvar on bass and The Dub Pistols’ Jack Cowens on drums.

I really like the sound of this. ‘Thinking Bad Thoughts’ is taken from the forthcoming album ‘Eleven 59’,  I hope that TFSOS have enough variance in their sound to keep me hooked for a full album. Looking forward to hearing it. (more…)

Tune of the Week 10/06/2010 // James Vincent McMorrow – Sparrow and The Wolf

James Vincent McMorrow‘s album ‘Early in The Morning’ has been on repeat round these parts for a while now and it’s lovely to see ‘Sparrow and The Wolf’ finally get the recognition it deserves outside Ireland.  It’s also on this week’s playlist on XFM, getting primetime airplay. The video is also quite cool and was made by  John Phillipson, Elton Mullally & Rob Davis, better known as Tusk Productions (When Under Ether). James is on tour this month in the U.S.A. with the gorgeous ‘The Civil Wars’.
