  • Trophy Boyfriend Remix Jedward

Trophy Boyfriend JedwardWhat’s this that has arrived in my Inbox? Why it’s the amazing remix of Ireland’s Eurovision entry by Trophy Boyfriend. Jedward’s Lipstick has been given the once over by Gregor Ruigrok.

Trophy Boyfriend‘s ‘Black Ship’ was featured regularly on My show on DCUfm last year and unless you’ve been under a rock you’ll know Jedward are. They are the last entry in Semi Final 2 of this year’s Eurovision on Thursday night. Will they go through to Saturday’s Grand Prix in Dusseldorf? Methinks they will actually have a good chance of winning the whole thing.

Here’s the track, described as ‘an emotional stadium sized 80’s air guitar infused take on our Eurovision entry’

Today there are not one or two doodles, there are 16 in total to celebrate what would have been the birthday of Mr. Men illustrator and writer Roger Hargreaves. It’s 40 years since the Mr. Men made an appearance and altogether there are 84 of them.. don’t believe me? (more…)

  • Hard-Fi: Good For Nothing

hardfiIt’s August 2005 and I’m on the way back from London with a band i was working with. In Luton airport I pick up a CD that was to become one of that year’s soundtracks for me. Hailing from Staines, like Ali G, Hard Fi’s Stars of CCTV featured some serious tunes, Hard To Beat, Living For the Weekend and Cash Machine. The follow up ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’ hit #1 on the first week of its release.

Fast forward to now and after a little break Hard-Fi are back. This is the first glimpse we’ve had of their new album ‘Killer Sounds’ which is pencilled for release later this year.  This is a definite change of style for the band, love the rhythm and the production, winner in my book.

  • Nugget: Irish Tune ft. Siyo & Class A’z

Over the past few years Class A’z have been working brilliantly as a genuine Irish hiphop collective. Redzer, Terawrizt and Co. have brightened up the Dubin scene. The cause has also got a nice shot to the arm with Nucentz winning the Spin1038 competition to have Lupe Fiasco add a verse to his track.

‘Irish Tune’ is taken from Nugget‘s second album ‘Ready to Diet’ the follow up to the Ballyfermot native’s ‘The Nugget You Love to Hate’ which features the immense ‘You Fat Bastard’ ( I have been known to go round singing this particular track – a lot)

These guys are the real deal and pull no punches. If you want a quick guide to Irish Hip Hop check out:
