  • Twelve Days of Films

Scott PilgrimSeeing as its the twelfth day of Christmas, I thought I’d do a quick recap/review on what movies I watched over the Festive season.

    Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Loved it. Directed by Edgar Wright, this movie beautiful incorporates the vibe of the comic book with fantastic graphics and editing. Michael Cera plays the lead role in which Scott Pilgrim must defeat Romona’s seven evil exes in order to win her heart. Aw Shucks! Some great laughs, great fights (loved the vegan one) and a brilliant soundtrack. Score!

This is another quirky little tale from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the man that brought us Delicatessen and Amélie. This tells the story of Bazil (Dany Boon), a video shop worker who gets hit in the head with a stray bullet. Once back on his feet, Bazil finds himself homeless and is adopted by a group of people living in a junkyard. Together, they scheme and plot to bring down two of the biggest weapons companies. Mix their plans with the eccentric folk of junkyard, a human cannonball, a contortionist, a measurement genius and a robot maker and there’s lots of laughs.

Beautiful colours and vibe, another imagery filled  cracker from Jeunet. (more…)

  • Barbarellas: Body Rock

BarbarellasB*Witched are back! Well, not quite but The Lynch Sisters, Keavy and Edele are back performing together under the moniker Barbarellas.

It’s over a decade since the twins Blamed It on the Weather and all that. Since then Edele has been busy writing for Xenomania and has co-written songs for Girls Aloud and Sugababes, while Keavy was off being a Mum.

A remix of their new single ‘Body Rock’ is available to download for free from their website.  The video features the single mix. So what’s it like?

Well it starts off like Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I love you’ with guitars, processed vocals and a dirty synth sound. It’s a bit of a grower*, I tend to like my pop songs with a bit more of a build up between the verse and chorus. Would love to hear the chorus bass line a little bit more prominent in the mix. Lyrically, its fair to say the Twins have grown up a bit since B*Witched (Praise Jebus).

The single is released at the end of January with the album ‘Night Mode’ pencilled in for April 2011.

*I’ve listened to it a few times, now it wont leave my head… Ladies, Mission Accomplished!

  • Carosel: Take Me (Live and Unplugged)

I know I’ve posted about Carosel before, I love their music. This video was shot for French music website LeTransistor. Apart from the fact there’s good music I also love the location and the way Benjamin Lemaire shot the piece. Brillliant, Ok, who’s coming down to George’s Street Arcade til I try this?
