  • Take That: The Circus Live DVD

A couple of touring pop stars decided to go with a Circus theme in recent times, Britney Spears, Pink with her Funhouse could be umbrella’ed into that and finally Take That. I saw this tour live in May 2009 when Take That brought the show to Croke Park in Dublin.

It can be a bit hard sometimes to translate the excitement of a live show over to a TV screen. Sometimes DVDs lack because we can’t feel the buzz of actually being there, I feel that a little with this.

The Circus Live is really well edited and put together. Its not surprising that due to the Take Take phenomenon that has re-enveloped the British Isles over the past couple of years, on the first day of release ‘The Circus Live’ had become the fastest selling music DVD ever in the UK.

  • Christophe Willem: Caféine Review

Thanks to my Kris Kindle pressie (a Voucher for Amazon), I’ve managed to get my hands on a couple of books and DVDs that I was looking for. I also got Christophe Willem’s second album Caféine.

The follow up to 2007’s Inventaire has already featured the singles Berlin, Plus Que Tout and Heartbox. Willem has pop down to a tee.. Think a bit of Robbie, a dash of Kylie and drizzle of Madonna, mix ’em up and you have Mr Willem.

It’s not surprising to see that Guy Chambers and Cathy Dennis feature on the album. The album also features duets with Skye and the talented Minogue sister. Another helping hand is that Willem is signed to 19 Management.

Inventaire established Willem as one of France’s premier chanteurs, Caféine takes him a step further towards Superstardom.  To achieve this though, unfortunately I think Willem will have to sing a few more songs in English.

The French have had a different way of doing CD releases for the past couple of years. Who needs CD singles if the industry are putting this much effort into physical albums. Pop the CD into the computer and you’re given a labyrinth of extras, videos, remixes, karaoke versions and a fantastic remix game where you can remix, Berlin and Plus Que Tout.

  • Tune of the Week:4/1/2010

By the looks of things, on Planet Nessy anyway, music in the teenies or at least in 2010 is going to be based in the electronica genre.

I heard this just before Christmas and loved it, last week it was between Delphic and Owl City who was going to be Tune of The Week. Delphic made it last week.

This week is the turn of Owl City and a great track called Fireflies. Taken from the major label debut album Ocean Eyes, Adam Young, should become fairly well know on this side of the Atlantic in 2010.

We’re only a couple of days in but already 2010 looks like it could be a Vintage year.

Owl City are due to tour in Europe this year.

    Ireland’s Biggest Hits 2009

Broadcast on RTÉ One on January 1st 2010, Ireland’s Biggest Hits gives a rundown of what we Googled most in 2009.

Presented by Craig Doyle, this could have been a bit of a bore, viewable by only the nerdy, geeky people (like myself) but instead Coco Television have produced an interesting, entertaining programme.

Searches looked at included the deaths of Michael Jackson, Stephen Gately and Jade Goody. Political and current affairs searches included Cowengate and John O’Donoghue’s expenditure.

What sets this show apart though, it wasn’t just another run down from 20 to 1. The items are grouped together nicely so we’re not jumping from entertainment to sport to politics and back again. The whole thing is put together in a seamless package.

Add to that, contributions from some of Ireland’s most influential internet people like, Damien Mulley, Rick O’Shea and Mark Little and you’re in for an enjoyable watching experience.

If you’re in Ireland you can see the programme on RTE’s iplayer until January 22nd 2010.
