  • I’ve Been Asked To Remove A Review

    Er what? No!

I did a review a while back, the artist will remain nameless for the moment, but their tiny independent label got in touch with me through Facebook asking me to remove the review.

    No!

A review is one person’s opinion and it’s my opinion, I still stand by the review I wrote. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

They wondered how I got the information about the artist, which came from the Label Myspace page.

I think its funny that they said too they didn’t realise I was who I was – my blog is linked to here from my Facebook page.. told the Label Guy that the review is on my blog and they can retort there.

I haven’t spoken evil or bad of anyone. I’ve put up a disclaimer to explain a bit more.  A review is one person’s opinion and there’s a thing called Freedom of Speech. The sender of the message even said they thought the review was well written. (Declan, my lecturer would be proud)

I’m only one of millions in the blogosphere. Jeez If I had know earlier that my writings were being so influential I would have been writing for the New York Times or Rolling Stone and making a fortune.

Finally, not every review is going to be glowing I even mentioned the artist had talent.. retort on the blog post.. It’s staying up!

    …. (a baffled) nessy out!

  • Sophie B. Hawkins & David LaChapelle

    tongues and tails

I was looking through some stuff online and found this…

I had completely forgotten that David LaChapelle had taken this photo of Sophie or the fact that he did the photography for Sophie’s first album, ‘Tongues and Tails’.

Goes to show how often we actually look at the album notes anymore.. I listened to the album the other day!

When Sophie came to Ireland in 2005, I looked after the booking of the tour and for all the  PR for her.

I’m quite proud to say it was a very successful stay here in Ireland.

Sophie has spoken about the photograph..

    Excerpt taken from here

RS: Speaking about beautiful, I’ve got to ask you some questions about your past. I remember an article in Details magazine, you did this really interesting interview and there are these photos of you pouring milk on yourself.
Sophie: Oh wow, yes, I remember that.

RS: What was the inspiration and the meaning behind the milk?
Sophie: Well, see this was me and David LaChapelle, who I love so much. Because he did the first album cover and David and I had a vibe right from the very beginning, and I think it’s because David and I really love nature. Do you know David?

RS: I know his work, he does really creative photography.
Sophie: Well he’s very beautiful, he’s so oriented in nature and we really bring that out of each other as you can see on the Tongues and Tails album covers. He gets really in nature and that was where I like to be and so it was wonderful. So for this shoot, he threw me in this gown, he hiked up my tits and he said stand over there. We were on a dairy farm and this farmer came by with some fresh warm milk and he wanted us to taste it. Instead of tasting the milk, I poured it over my leg. It was just an instinct and David thought it was so beautiful. Then when I saw the pictures I thought it was so beautiful. I don’t know if it was just the moment. It was warm, sexy milk, fresh out of a cow and it couldn’t have felt better. It was a freezing day, in upstate New York and the milk felt wonderful. And that’s what happened.

Sometimes people do silly things.. one of the silly things I’ve done is wait til now to sign up to Pix.ie

It took me all of 30 seconds to sign up, when I did and decided to upload some photos. They were online before I even thought they could be.

Pix.ie seems so much easier than Flickr and its just so much faster.

I’ve uploaded a few photos.. Here’s a link to my profile.

  • Róisín & The Beards Review

    roisin

I wrote this for MusicReviewUnsigned. When I get a Direct Link I will Update,

With a name like Róisín and The Beards, one automatically hopes that The lady in question has a couple of blokes in her band and doesn’t suffer from some other terrible affliction. On seeing photographs of the band, its safe to say its the former!

‘Meet me at the Central Bank’, the last line of many a conversation in Ireland’s capital, ten minutes before it actually happens.

‘I’ll be the one without the skateboard’ sings Róisín, ‘Come on let’s take a ramble’ which is what seems to happen in this tune. A series of refrains, all chorus like seem to make up this song apart from one slight breakdown. It needs a little more direction I’m afraid.

A nice ditty, probably a good live song but not blowing me away.
