My real name is Vanessa Monaghan – everyone calls me nessy

So its not hard to see where nessymon came from

As in nessymon.wordpress.com I’ve decided to change my twitter name to @nessymon and I’ve changed my facebook to facebook.com/nessymon

Over the next few weeks nessymon.com should be up and running too…

Reason? Once upon a time a friend/lecturer said that if you could find a unique name on the internet that was a good thing… When I google NessyProductions you get a couple of Nessyproductions from around the world. I’m still going to use NessyProductions.eu for work but for personal stuff and building up a personal online presence nessymon.com is a great option.

When I google nessymon – everything that comes up is weirdly strangely and ego boostingly referring to me..

    🙂 …nessy out!

  • Pesky Kids

Today and yesterday, (yes me in my sick bed) I was working on some artwork for ‘Pesky Kids, The IYMA’s Volume 2 Monaghan’. Thats a mouthful!

Basically it’s the album of the IYMA’s. MGRB from Monaghan won the competition this year hence: Volume 2. Monaghan

The artwork is pretty much the same format as last year’s Volume 1: Donegal. It’s a 12 page full colour booklet with full colour backliner and full colour disc.

The logo I came up last year and the tagline ‘Young Music Has a New Home’, which I think is still pretty cool. I used the Hard Way RMX font, as the CD is aimed at people between 14-19, this isn’t a boring font and has a bit of a hiphop/rock graffiti edge to it.

Last year’s CD was launched at the Music Show in the RDS, not sure what the story is with this year’s CD, I just know its going to press yesterday.. Ah sure what’s new its Rock N’ Roll!

A little more time to get the artwork done would have been good..That reminds me I must do a blog post on music duplication!!

    …nessy out!

  • Are ye lounging it?

Discharge LoungeI’m in the discharge lounge. I’ve been wanting this day since last Thursday week. Actually I didn’t even know this place existed.

This morning at 750 the nice doctor told me I could go home. After 12 days in they have told me that it looks like the old DVT was what causing the problem.

I had some tests for lupus on Friday but the results haven’t come back yet. Seemingly the GP can get those for me.

Its nice here, coffee and tea flowing, nice big comfy chairs, it could be the hospital’s way of making sure you give the place two thumbs up.

Met some good people in here, the nurses (well the majority) are sound! Alice and Rachel deserve a mention, Gas!! They’re good craic!

It’s hard to believe that I’ve spent nearly three weeks in this place this summer. The last thing I wanted or needed.

I’m on the crutches 15 weeks tomorrow. All a bit mental. At least I’ve four weeks before college starts back! I’ve to wear these nice support stockings too.. Ooh sexy, need a suspender belt to keep them up!

So long St. James’ hopefully I won’t have to be here again for a loooonng time 🙂

P.S. I think its David Guetta’s fault even more now… maybe I should make a video, ‘Crutch Dancing For Beginners’

  • Rob Smith: Throwing It All Away Review

    rob smith

When artist asks if you would like to review their album for your blog, it’s a bit of a kick but you also wonder if they are slightly cocky?

Rob Smith has every right to be cocky. ‘Throwing It All Away’ is Rob’s debut and was released in 2008. He wears his influences on his sleeve, The Stone Roses, Oasis, the heros of 90’s Britpop and for a change its nice to see an artist more popular abroad than in his own native land.

The album kicks off with an instrumental track called ‘The Jam’, nice introduction. Recorded and Produced by Colin Whelan, Conor O’Brien and Smith himself, its well recorded and mixed but occasionally the vocal levels could have been higher in the mix.

Smith fits right into the Britpop genre, his voice is actually a nice surprise. ‘Soul Shaker’ seems to melt all Smith’s influences into his own perfect four minutes of swagger. Smith is consistent in his songwriting, with a nice variety of song structures throughout this debut.

Standout tracks would be, along with ‘Soul Shaker’, ‘When Your Feet Were Dancing’. Honourable mention must also go to ‘Lasagne’, a hidden track at the end of the album where Smith shows off his sense of humour. Good ending!
