Tune of the Week // runaway [Go] – Ashes

RunawayGoIt’s been a while since we heard from Belfast based, runaway [Go]. Over the past year or so the band have been working on their debut album, ‘Alive’. As well as announcing the track listing for the album, they’ve also announced a new single, Ashes.

The track features the trademark runaway [Go] twin lead vocal of Fiona O’Kane and Dave Jackson. One reason that the announcement of a new single / album took a little extra time could be put down to the success of Fiona O’Kane’s solo project.

Her cover of ‘I Can’t Help Myself’, was used in Durex’s Earth Hour advert and the track got a lot of radioplay and interest from that.

That kind of publicity can never harm, especially when your band is about to launch their debut album. runaway [Go] have independently released six singles before the album announcement, a couple make the album shakedown.

    The Album Tracklisting;

    1. Ashes
    2. Lover to Lover
    3. Lightning
    4. Alive
    5. Crawl
    6. I’ll Still Love You
    7. Kite
    8. Delicate Man
    9. Home To The Clouds

Ashes is a great single to start an album campaign with. Besides, runaway [Go] bridging the pop/indie gap with soaring anthemic songs, the lyrics of Ashes is about new starts, leaving the past behind and getting on with life and making it all happen, starting today.

Uplifting and something we probably could all live by. This week’s Tune of the Week.

  • Listen // Go Wolf – One More Night

Listen // Go Wolf – One More Night

One More Night is the new single from Belfast trio, Go Wolf, and it so right up my alley, any more so I’d be a dancer in the band!

One More Night is released on June 2nd and while the vocals do have a slight Killers’ element to them, Brandon Flowers wishes he could come up with something this danceable. The lads have already opened for The 1975, CSS and Wild Beasts and also played The Great Escape in Brighton. They’ll be doing their own tour around the UK later this year. Can’t wait for it.

The track was recorded by Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios and mastered by Robin Schmidt at 24-96 Mastering.

  • The Salt Flats: EP Review

saltflatsFolk music is slowly creeping it’s way into other genres. The Salt Flats have just released their self titled E.P. and while their songs are steeped in folk, have added an electronic dimension to proceedings.

The E.P. opens with ‘Sail Away To The Sea’,  here The Salt Flats have let the vocals and just a kick drum drive the song until the choral refrain. When all the instruments do come in, there’s a good balance. The memorable melody, subtle bass line and interesting aural decoration make this track probably the one most accessible and destined for radio.
