  • Phew!

    Some reading material

Just finished my essay, I have to say its the hardest i’ve ever worked on an essay so fingers crossed I’ll do well. I’m a bit mad sometimes me! I think I work better under pressure. The last couple of times I’ve had to hand in essays for college I’ve been ill so It was always left to the very last moment.

This time we got a bit of an extension, everything to be handed in by tomorrow. Thanks to my insomnia this week and getting our video project done it ended up Β that I was doing it Thursday and Friday but I just couldn’t get my head around it. It wasn’t like it was way tough for anything, I just wasn’t in the right headspace for it.

So for E Society I did this:

    Option 6:

β€œthe Web 2.0 revolution is decimating the ranks of our cultural gatekeepers, as professional critics, journalists, editors, musicians, moviemakers, and other purveyors of expert information are being replaced. … For the real consequence of the Web 2.0 revolution is less culture, less reliable news, and a chaos of useless information.” (Keen, 2007: 16) What are the implications of the ‘Web 2.0 revolution’ for multimedia professionals?

  • The Noughties: My Review

    Millennium Dome 1999
    Millennium Dome NYE 1999

So Friday sees the start of a new year and a new decade. Thank God 2009 is over, I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks its crap.

I spent a month in hospital, thanks to a blood clot just below my knee that really wasn’t treated properly at the start. It turned into a DVT and I end up on crutches for a staggering 29 weeks. I’m off them 4 weeks today, I’m still getting used to walking around.

So when I was feeling sorry for myself the rest of the population of Ireland were losing their jobs and going on the dole. When I was 18, I too joined the dole queue, the country was also in a pretty crap state but people still had hope. This time round though people seem extremely down.

A lot of things have happened this decade, looking back at world events it was the decade that changed the world. 9/11 sorted that, along with 7/7 bombings in London in 2005.Since the guy tried to blow up a plane on Christmas Day, we’re supposedly going to have to strip down to our underpants to board a plane.

I’m writing this on my blackberry, phones could just about SMS a decade ago. Now we’re always connected, if I didn’t have the BBerry I’d be completely lost.

  • Are ye lounging it?

Discharge LoungeI’m in the discharge lounge. I’ve been wanting this day since last Thursday week. Actually I didn’t even know this place existed.

This morning at 750 the nice doctor told me I could go home. After 12 days in they have told me that it looks like the old DVT was what causing the problem.

I had some tests for lupus on Friday but the results haven’t come back yet. Seemingly the GP can get those for me.

Its nice here, coffee and tea flowing, nice big comfy chairs, it could be the hospital’s way of making sure you give the place two thumbs up.

Met some good people in here, the nurses (well the majority) are sound! Alice and Rachel deserve a mention, Gas!! They’re good craic!

It’s hard to believe that I’ve spent nearly three weeks in this place this summer. The last thing I wanted or needed.

I’m on the crutches 15 weeks tomorrow. All a bit mental. At least I’ve four weeks before college starts back! I’ve to wear these nice support stockings too.. Ooh sexy, need a suspender belt to keep them up!

So long St. James’ hopefully I won’t have to be here again for a loooonng time πŸ™‚

P.S. I think its David Guetta’s fault even more now… maybe I should make a video, ‘Crutch Dancing For Beginners’

  • Should’ve brought my bag!

Take 2 Day 2, Technically its day 3 at this stage its 6.40am

I’m back in this familiar place, I’m actually back in the very same bed as when I was here in May.

I knew there was a possibility that if anything happened me the ‘powers that be’ would bring me back into hospital. I just didn’t think it would actually happen.

I went for my routine INR bloodcheck on Thursday to the Warfarin clinic. My leg has been sore over the past week so I asked to speak to the nurse about my concerns. She told me I had to go straight to A&E πŸ™

I decided that I would go home and get my bag with jammies, toiletries and books and be ready to stay.

I was back in A&E about four and began the long process of waiting to see a doctor.

The triage nurse saw me and sent me back to the waiting room. Two hours later I was called in for reassessment and sent back to the waiting room. Another while passed and I was reassessed again. I eventually got to see a doctor at 1am.

He told me what I already knew, I needed to get a Doppler scan to see if the DVT had got bigger. So he checked me over and asked why I had come to A&E. Er cos the nurse told me to..

He then told me I could sleep ‘in my own bed’ tonight but come back in the morning for the scan.

So yesterday I went for the scan and there seems to be two DVTs in my leg. That’s a problem, there was only one. So either a piece broke off and moved down my leg or its a new one. Oh the joy!

I was admitted last evening and I’m actually in the very same bed as I was the last time I was here. I had left my packed bag at home. It seems like everytime I leave it at home they bring me in. Should’ve brought my bag!
