  • Interview with Ant West from Futures

    futuresFutures is a four piece band from Buckinghamshire signed to Mercury Records, formed from the ashes of ‘Tonight is Goodbye’. While still unsigned, the band’s debut seven track mini album ‘The Holiday’, was given away as a cover mounted CD with Rock Sound magazine.

    The band play Academy 2 in Dublin on May 28th. I caught up with singer, Ant West, while he was having breakfast and chatted about their upcoming album, Fruit ‘n Fibre and yes, even Gina G.

    Your first gig as Futures sold out, do you think that was fall out from your previous band or had you managed to build a new fanbase in that time?

    ‘I think it probably was but I think it was more positive as in people were excited to see what we had done, rather than ‘Oh let’s go see that band again’, it was ‘let’s go see the old members from that band’. I think it was the excitement for that but I guess they were old fans who were seeing what we were doing.‘

  • Interview with Romily from Japanese Voyeurs

    JAPANESE-VOYEURSLondon based rock quintet, Japanese Voyeurs are currently on tour and about to release their debut album ‘Yolk’, I caught up with lead singer Romily Alice and chatted about touring, recording and guitar pedals.

    You rescheduled your Dublin date because of recording commitments but you were recording with GGGarth Richardson (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine), who is a bit of a legend, what was it like working with Garth?

    ‘Yeah, he’s amazing, we didn’t think that we would get to work with someone like that, then when he heard the demos, he like it so he came over, saw a show, met us and we were all really nervous about it until we met him. Once we met him, he’s such a good man, funny and warm, you completely forget that he’s done all this amazing stuff and you just become really friendly….’

    Interview with Zach from Portugal. The Man

    Portugal The Man - nessymonThe new album from Portugal. The Man, Senseless is due out later this Summer. They play their first Dublin gig in The Academy on Saturday April 9th. I caught up with bass player Zach while they were in Germany this week.

    We love it here (Cologne), it’s always been awesome to us. Usually the day that we get in, there’s a hotel that we really like here that we’ve stayed in since we first started coming to Europe. There’s a music shop nearby and a record store, so we come here and get all the things that we realise that we forgot. We come here to Cologne, stock up and hang out with a few friends just before we go off on a tour.

    Portugal The Man have a mountainous back catalogue with E.P.s coming out between albums, meaning there’s always a new release to love forward to. What makes the band so prolific, what is it about you that makes you want to make music so much ?

    Honestly, we make a lot of music cos that’s what we do. It’s our job, it’s our hobby, everything that we love to do. We don’t take time off, we pride ourselves on working very hard. John and I are from Alaska and used to build houses and work in warehouses and stuff like that. We’ve had some pretty tough jobs and we’ve always been fans of a work ethic and when it comes to the music we definitely don’t change anything. We feel very lucky, of all the bands in the world trying to do something with it and the fact that we have this chance is pretty amazing and so we didn’t were not going to mess it up. We’re going to work harder at this then we’ve ever had in our lives.
