The London Ear 299 // With Mick Cronin, from the band, Cronin

Hello from the land where, if you’re looking the news / telly, you’d almost believe that that pandemic was over and no longer a threat. But hey, that’s for another blog post.

On today’s episode of The London Ear, I catch up with Mick Cronin, from the band Cronin. They released a new mini album ‘A view from the next room’. We chat about the release, adjusting to the changing world as a musician and a recording studio owner. We also chat about Mick’s Irish identity, having lived between Drumlish, in Longford, and Leeds, what it meant to be Irish at school in Leeds and how Boyzone helped the lads with the ladies.

We also get a ‘hello’ from Mick’s daughter, Tara. From the sounds of things, she’ll be on the show with her own band in no time!

You can find out more about the band on their website, Facebook, Twitter and Insta.

This week’s #FromTheVault track comes from Me In The Park, a fantastic band from Dublin.I love ‘2nd Opinion’ which I played on the show.

Next week I’ll be chatting to Maddox Jones.

The London Ear // Show 297

    Hello! London Calling!

So restrictions are starting to relax a little in the UK and in Ireland, make sure you stay safe and don’t do anything stupid!!

On the programme this week, chats with Hawke and #FromTheVault, I head to 2011 for the title track of the You’ve Got it Wrong EP from The Dead Flags.

    Conversation with Hawke

On this week’s show, it was great to catch up with Eoghan and Richie from Hawke. The two lads are from Dublin but living in London. They’ve been involved in music for a few years now and were actually guests on The London Ear with a previous musical project ‘Taken’.

Like many of us, the pair were in London during lockdown and wanted to document or mark the time. They’ve come up with a cute project called ‘The Covid Diary’, a collection of songs and messages from family, friends and fans of the band.

You can find more out more about Hawke on their website, Facebook, Insta and Twitter. You can listen to the band on Spotify.

The London Ear // Show 296: In Conversation with Default Man aka Darragh J Glennon

It was an absolute pleasure catching up with Darragh J Glennon for today’s show. I know Darragh since 2004/2005 and the last time I actually think I saw him was a few years ago in Camden in London. Darragh has always been involved with music, making music, teaching music and he was right in the middle of the fantastic Mullingar music scene of the mid noughties.

Darragh is now living in Galicia in Northern Spain, and it sounds like it suits him. He is now making music under the moniker ‘Default Man’. We chat about his new single ‘Tiny Whispers’, how he has coped with life in Spanish lockdown and what the future holds for the Mullingar man.

(Edit: Darragh made a really important point online, during our chat, we also discussed the importance of being able to do nothing and be okay with that. Really honest conversation from him)

Find out more about Darragh J Glennon’s Default Man on his website, Facebook, Twitter and Insta. You can listen to his music on Spotify and purchase it on Bandcamp.

The London Ear: Show 292 // Sistas Are Doing It For Themselves

Hello from London, I saw a social media post online during the week about an Irish music playlist that was full of testosterone and not one female voice in it. Lots of people were firing off ‘hate’ at the playlist makers. No, it’s not right to leave out the ladies from playlists. If music is good and made by men or womxn then if it’s good enough to be on the radio / playlist, it’s good enough.

But, I do believe, as a feminist, if I can do something to balance the ills, and show support for Irish womxn who make awesome music, then I will. I could easily have filled the show ten times over, but this is a start.

If you like this idea, maybe I’ll do something like this every couple of weeks.
