The London Ear // Interview with Meljoann

I finally got the opportunity to chat to Meljoann about their album, ‘H.R.’. The album was released about six weeks ago and I love it. Originally from Ireland, Meljoann now lives in Brighton and to be honest, I’m a big fan.

Meljoann has produced an album that deserves wider recognition. The songwriting is top class and the musicianship production values on ‘H.R.’ are honey for the ears.

I first heard of Meljoann’s music in the run-up to the release of their album ‘Squick’. Previous lifetime stuff here, I was still living in Dublin and made promo CDs for bands. This was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect and find out what life is like for an Irish artist living in Brighton, which, I might add, is one of my favourite places.

    Meljoann Recommends:

During our chat, Meljoann spoke about the experimental music scene in Brighton and mentioned Geoff from Spirit of Gravity. Make sure to sign up to their newsletter on their website for events in Brighton.

Meljoann also spoke about her collaborator Regan O’Brien. Do check out Regan’s work and the video below.

    Happy Easter!

It’s great having a four-day weekend! I’m fully of the opinion that if we had longer weekends or a four-day week, that it would cut down on unemployment and everyone would have a little bit more time to do what they really wanted to. Using every Saturday as a rest day for the previous week leaves you with one day to have fun. Who’s with me?

    Interview with writer/playwright Sue Healy

Irish Playwright - Sue Healy - The London Ear

Today on The London Ear, I chat to Irish playwright, Sue Healy. Sue’s play ‘Cow’ is on tonight (April 15) in the Etcetera Theatre, over the Oxford Arms pub in Camden at 945pm.

Cow is ‘An entertaining light comedy that also mulls contemporary issues including immigration, perceptions of women and infertility’. It’s also got a bit of a DJ Carey obsession going on.

Sue has a fantastic CV of achievements, you can read all about her work on her website and you can follow Sue on Twitter.

Keep an eye out for more ‘Cow’ dates this summer!

    Interview with Moses from Bokito

    Bokito - The London Ear

Get two lads from Kildare, three from lads from the UK, a touch of hip hop and afrobeat vibes, put it altogether and you end up with Bokito.

I played their track ‘Better at getting Worse’ on the show and you know what? I absolutely love it. It’s a fantastic debut release so I had to get chatting to the guys behind the sound and find out what is going on.

You can find out more about the band on Facebook, Twitter and on Instagram.

They play The Tram in Tooting on April 22nd and Whelan’s in Dublin on April 28th.

Ah, the day after St. Patrick’s Day! I had yesterday off, which was great. I’ve been working here in London for a few years now and it’s always a bit weird when you have to go to an office and do a day’s work. Always felt a little hard done by! Not this year though, I had a lovely, chilled relaxing day. Hope you had fun whatever you got up to.
