  • Cars Love Girls: Lose Your Mind Review

Cars-like-GirlsCars Love Girls release their debut single ‘Lose Your Mind’ on October 14th. The brother/sister band features Bres, of Republic of Loose and female vocalist Orla who joined the Loose in 2006.

We’re in for a good dose of funky R ‘n’ B, with some serious Prince influences, which is never a bad thing. This is probably also helped on by the fact that mastering was done by Bernie Grundman, who lended his ears to Purple Rain. Lyrically, the track is very ROL, not surprising as Bres wrote some to their biggest tracks. Orla’s vocals are made for this type track, and the vocal layers and slight reverb lead this track beautifully through its rise and falls.

Really good debut and introduction for the album ‘Skip School’ which is due out in early 2012. Life after the Loose is looking good. Really like this track.

Watch out for Cars Love Girls on tour with Bressie, and on the IMRO Showcase tour on September 29th in Crawdaddy and Hard Working Class Heroes in October.

  • Prince: 20Ten Review

How do you really write about a new Prince album? The Artist Formerly known as Squiggle has for the second time licensed a new album for distribution in a UK tabloid. 3 Million copies of 2007’s Planet Earth was given away with a Sunday newspaper for free but shortly after that Prince sold out the 02 in London for an incredible 21 nights, generating £11 million sterling.

Like the strange person he is, he has also recently said the internet is dead.. yeah ok. Prince Rogers Nelson, you may be nutty enough to say that or not allow your music on Youtube but you’re still clever enough to play the game. So what’s the music like?

Pretty damn good actually. 20Ten kicks off with ‘Compassion’, an upbeat track sounding like it came out of 1984. We’re talking Prince circa Let’s Go Crazy. ‘Beginning Endlessly’ is so familiar, its Prince with his signature harmonies, synth sounds and funky guitar sounds. This is basically Squiggle getting down and dirty at the ripe ole age of 52.

  • 1999…We Danced!

Funny.. in all this talk about how technologically advanced we’ve become in the past decade Prince or Squiggle or whatever the Purple One calls himself these days, doesn’t want his music appearing on YouTube…

This is what we were dancing to a decade ago while we wondered if Y2K was going to be some form of alien invasion and kill us all..

Musical genius, multimedia eejit.. (that’s the review part – please read below)

I couldn’t get a decent copy of the tune so here’s what we have… it kicks in after about 15 seconds
