R is for Rock n Roll: John Robb at TEDx Salford

JohnRobb_BannerI can’t believe that this still has just 500 views on YouTube. John Robb is a punk at heart. He formed Membranes in 1977 and still sings with Goldblade, a band he formed in 1984. As well as being a writer, journalist and opinion giver on music TV shows, he’s also presented a series on the history of punk. He is also the guy behind Louder Than War.

If you’ve ever wanted to make music, watch this, if you currently make music, watch this. A very enjoyable 24 minutes.

Calling All AstronautsLondon band, Calling All Astronauts, have been kind enough to give me the Goth and Bass Remix of their single, Someone Like You for Free Download. The band are really starting to make waves in the UK and are currently filling up their Summer Touring Schedule. They also had the pleasure of being ‘Introduced’by Tom Robinson on his BBC 6 radio show.

You can check out the chat I had with David on Culture Cafe a couple of weeks ago.

I wrote this for www.musicreviewunsigned.com – Should be on their website shortly.

    The Shower Scene

Occasionally a band comes along and makes you go ‘Wow!’. The Shower Scene have been together for little over a year but from the first note on their debut E.P. sound like they are old pros.

Taking elements of Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy and the likes, The Shower Scene mould together an edgy emo/punk rock sound that is often not done well on our shores. Produced by Neal Calderwood, the five track E.P. sparkles with professionalism. Clever lyrics, catchy choruses and guitars turned up to 11 ensure The Shower Scene never miss a beat in the E.P.’s 17 minutes.

It’s not surprising to hear that The Shower Scene have ready opened for Fall Out Boy and are currently in the US on tour. Catch them before you have to pay lots of money!
