Stop following President Trump - nessymon

    Inauguration Day, 20th January 2017

I had been following Barack Obama on his personal @BarackObama account on Twitter and also on POTUS account.

After the 45th President, Donald Trump was sworn in, the 44th President’s tweets were archived to @POTUS44. No big deal, Barack is no longer president and he has now gone back to using his own @BarackObama account.

    Still with me?

Saturday morning I wake up, check twitter and see tweets from the 45th President in my timeline. I did not follow the new President on Twitter. Here’s the thing, I understand that as the tweets from Mr Obama were archived, I would then be following his account on @POTUS44.

    Follow Trump? Er, no thanks!
    Follow Trump? Er, no thanks!

    I followed Trump as @POTUS?

But, here’s the thing, Twitter automatically had me following BOTH accounts. I’m sure it’s quite apparent to the Twitter people that those who would follow Barack Obama would not necessarily follow Trump. I obviously didn’t want to follow Trump and unfollowed that account as soon as I realised it.

I’ve scanned over the terms and conditions of use, I can’t see anything. If anyone knows of a way that Twitter can automatically have you following an account, please leave a message in the comments.

Already, with Trump lying about the turn out of people for his inauguration, this feels like his orangeness may be a little sensitive about having low follower numbers.

For the past while, the tech world has been full of news about the possible sale of Twitter, the demise of the platform and the regulation of trolls. Inauguration Day was a huge day for Twitter. It’s still the first place I go to for up to the second news but I think it’s important to clarify, if or where it is in the Twitter terms and conditions that the company can follow on your behalf, and in this case perhaps, against your beliefs.

Twitter, I sent you a @ already. I’d love for you to respond to clarify.

Have you heard of Soundmite? // Social Audio

    Soundmite

I first heard of Soundmite about 18 months ago. I met Steve, one of the gents behind the social audio app at a pre-drinks for the Next Radio conference.

I immediately fell in love with the idea. A social audio app with which you can post 21 seconds of audio. Enough time to share what you’re up to or what you’re listening to, enough to get an audio bite size look into someone’s day. And, short enough that you won’t get bored by a lengthy monologue.

I find it handy to use for audio trails for The London Ear. If you heard a radio ad promoting a radio show, that’s a trail. 21 secs is more than enough.

Each ‘Soundmite’ is 21 seconds is a good length of time to pick out Tunes of the week, recommend a new music track and in a time that doesn’t break any copyright rules as you’re using it for fair usage, reporting or reviewing. Very clever.

    My Profile on Soundmite

Where I think Soundmite can and should really come into it’s own is with radio stations getting listeners to leave their feedback and using a hashtag to filter. If a listener is concise, they can leave feedback about new features, tracks, jokes, etc and a producer can play this soundmites straight from the internet. You don’t have to fear the wrath of the public on live radio. At 21 seconds long, you’ll be able to vet each ‘mite’ before playing out on air.

Soundmite is currently iOS app and I use it on my iPad. Younger users, I think, can make the best of this on iPods.

There are a few little things that would be great to add to the app. The ability to embed individual soundmites would be great.

Try it out, give it a go, get your username now! I think once this app is developed for Android, it will really take off.

If you’re on Soundmite, follow me!

    100 Days to Change // Day 1

    100DaystoChangeDay1

    January 1 2016 – Happy New Year!

The day didn’t get off to the best start to be honest. I’ve had a horrible cold for a few days, which seemed to keep me awake for ages, meaning I slept ’til lunchtime. It also rained all day which is never great to give you the get up and go that I had hoped for. Couple this with an annoying cough and you get the drift.

So as it was going to be an indoor, take it easy day, I decided to do a social media cull. So in what way is this making life better I hear you ask?.

Well, I use Facebook, primarily to keep up with family and friends and for my radio show, so I left that alone. Personally, I prefer Instagram and Twitter but it’s easy to add random people to who you follow.

It took a couple of hours, while sitting on the couch, but using Crowdfire app, I went through who I was following that I didn’t really need to be, and had no interaction with and unfollowed. With a couple of hundred less people followed, it’s easier to see what’s going on in your main timeline. It’s not as busy. Next job on Twitter is to add people are are not already in lists into appropriate lists so it’s easier to follow, social media tips, music, radio etc.

A lot of people seem to think that the way to reorganise themselves on social media is to step away completely for a while. For me, using it for work and for my radio show, as well as keeping up to date with the Irish Crew, that’s not an option. So what I wanted to do was to get rid of a lot of noise and already I can see the difference.

    quiche
Quiche – Tastes better than it looks!
My timeline isn’t as mental, friends on Twitter don’t get caught up in all the spam.. I’m happy so far!

Oh, I also made a absolutely yummy quiche for the first time in my life.. doesn’t look too pretty but tastes yummy! Hurrah for achievement number 1 of the year!

So that’s Day 1 down, yes, I eased my way into it. Here’s to the next 99 Days of Change.

Happy New Year, here’s to a happy, healthy, productive 2016.

  • Internet for Bands: 101

    how-to-use-the-internet

It still baffles me sometimes at how bands use or don’t use the internet. If you are in a band then it means you want to get your name out there. To be honest this could be for any artistic types but it seems that bands have shouted the loudest to get themselves heard.

The internet has made it so easy for artists to get their wares to the outside world but the technologies that have allowed us to do this also means anyone can do it.  But its important though, even before anything goes online to make sure that the material you are uploading is the best you can make.

    1. Quality Control:

Ten, fifteen years ago , there is no way a band, even a small garage band would record something in the morning and release it that afternoon. Unfortunately that happens now and it means there is less Quality Control on what reaches cyberspace.. what do I mean?
