  • Fiach: Every Single Day Review

    Fiach

Dublin Singer/songwriter Fiach, has been working his way up the ladder for the past couple of years. ‘Every Single Day’ is his current single taken from his new album ‘So I’.

‘Every Single Day’ is a driving indie/folk/rock track, not quite what I was expecting to be honest. It’s all good! The drums and bass keep the pace up and there’s a clever little guitar hook going on. Fiach’s vocals are effortless.

This is Fiach’s second single, the follow up to You Dear and if the rest of the album is anything like this, its bound to be a gem. The pace never slows and Fiach gives us three minutes of pure magic, This is the best Irish single of this genre I have heard in years.

  • Machine Gun Baby: Promo Review

    Machine Gun Baby

Hailing from Dublin’s Northside, Machine Gun Baby have been starting to get their name around lately. I’m going to see if I can find out why.

The two track promo starts with ‘Yes I’ll Wait’ a slow building track to rousing chorus. At 2.47 it’s a radio dream. Vocalist, Keegan has a strong Kings of Leon type voice and this track seems not to stretch him at all. The bass sound is a little reminiscent of Adam Clayton’s sound, thats not necessarily a bad thing. Its not a bad track, I’d like to see a little more of the rousing chorus style though, the track rises and falls a little too much perhaps for a short track.

‘Under the Sun’ is more like what I was looking for. A nice guitar, drum, vocal combo, this is quite a KOL influenced track. The track again rises and falls, almost for Keegan’s vocals. I’d like to see more of the rises. The overall production isnt bad either, if the drums were a little louder and more in your face, this could be a stonking track.

Not a bad start, Machine Gun Baby, have their sound and seem to know where their strengths lie. A little bit of fairy dust could go a long way with these guys.

  • Simon Fagan: Damn Honey Review

    Simon Fagan

    I wrote this for MusicReviewUnsigned.

Think of a singer songwriter, you picture a guy with a guitar, right? He’s sitting strumming a hippy type song?

Simon Fagan blows these thoughts out of the water, ‘Damn Honey’ is a big song with big production and demands radio play. The intro builds up nicely to a chorus that will rattles in your head for hours. It’s a mid tempo singalong track that bigger acts would kill to play on a big stage

Simon’s paid his dues in various bands and it shows. His sound is mature well thought out and memorable. Damn Honey is released on March 5th and is taken from Simon’s debut album due out in May. Looking forward to it.

  • Storyfold: Delphine Wakes Review

StoryfoldI originally wrote this for MusicReviewUnsigned. Run Kid changed their name to Storyfold and ‘Delphine Wakes’ is their debut single out soon.

Formed in March 2009, Dublin based Storyfold should be still cutting their teeth but this two track promo makes them sound like seasoned pros on top of their game.

Track 1, Delphine is an uptempo pop punk track, nice harmonies, great piano lines and a chorus that makes you want to dance. The vocals from Paddy McKenna are slightly reminiscent of Ryan from Yellowcard to this listener, which is in no way a bad thing. Production on this track is top notch.

Behind Closed Doors is track 2 a slower tempo track with a great build up to the chorus. These guys are going to be a force to be reckoned with. The string arrangement is so subtle, its masterful.

Run Kid have defined their own sound, even in these two tracks, powerpop/punk with a distinctive piano and vocal combination. Going on these two tracks they should have a long career ahead of them.
