  • Free Music Monday 09/04/2012: Conor Ebbs

conorebbsSeeing as it’s a bank holiday and everyone has a day off, I’ve decided that this recommendation should be a long player. It’s the debut album from Irishman Conor Ebbs and features some beautifully crafted songs, I love the title track ‘Drifters’. You can get the album on Conor’s bandcamp for free, nada and for nothing!

  • Competition: Win Tickets to Girls Night The Musical at The Gaiety

girls-nightWhat better way to celebrate a bank holiday weekend than to give you a chance to get your mitts on some freebies!

Girls Night runs at The Gaiety Theatre Dublin, from 10th – 21st April and follows five friends as they ‘relive their past, celebrate their present and look to the future on a wild karoake night out’. During the show, you ‘ll be hearing tracks like ‘Say A Little Prayer’, ‘I Will Survive’ ‘Holding Out For A Hero’ and ‘Man I Feel Like A Woman’.

‘This touching and hilarious ‘tell-it-like-it-is’ musical takes audiences on a journey into the lives of a group of female friends. Audience members can’t help but laugh, cry and even find themselves singing and dancing in the aisles as some of the most popular hit songs of the 80s and 90s make this musical a fan favourite!’

The show is directed and cheoreographed by Andrew Lynford who played Simon Raymond in Eastenders and also presented Play Days on the Beep. The ladies on their night out are played by Lorraine Keane (RTÉ, TV3 and AA roadwatch fame), Hilda Fay (Tracey in Fair City), Sorcha Furlong (Orla Kirwan Fair City), Jacinta White (Judge on RTÉ’s Fame The Musical) and Sharon Sexton (Somewhere Over the Rainbow – The Liza Minnelli Story, I, Keano).

  • Tune of the Week 07/04/2012: The Ghosts

The GhostsThere’s something about The Ghosts, they produce catchy melodic indie but something in there makes me think of the Pet Shop Boys. That definitely aint a bad thing. I’ve been listening to there new album ‘The End’ which is out next week, I’m liking it a lot! You’ll be able to read a full review here this week. This track is the follow up to their debut single ‘Enough Time’.

This week’s Tune of The Week is from The Ghosts, spookily entitled ‘Ghosts’.

  • Coast To Coast: Tea and Toast

Coast To Coast: Tea and Toast

coast2coast-teaandtoastThe guys from Goldenplec are doing some mad stuff tomorrow, driving from Portmarnock to Achill and back, stopping off along the way for a cuppa, some toast and a song from a local band, raising a few quid along the way for Down Syndrome Ireland.

    Here’s some info:

This unique guerilla gigging event will see Team Goldenplec travel from Portmarnock to Achill and back stopping in every county we pass through having tea, toast and a one song gig from a local band. The event is to raise money for our chosen charity Down Syndrome Ireland and will help promote small acts across the country. We have kindly got three lovely sponsors for the day. Meteor are providing us with mobile interest access across the country, Lyons are putting the talk in our tea and Johnston Mooney & O’Brien are providing us with the bread from Ireland’s oldest bakery to make our toast.

It takes place this Friday, 6th April starting at 7.30am with a band called Jail Chase and we will continue across the country to meet a band in every county to hear them play a one song gig and share some tea and toast with us. We will be recording each “one song gig” and sharing these videos out through Youtube / Twitter / Facebook throughout the day and via Goldenplec.com.

All are welcome to the finale in Malahide to join us for some tea, toast and some music from the many lovely acts who have agreed to join us and play a song or two. We anticipate to be back in Malahide Yacht Club around 8pm, as long as there are no delays on the route. (more…)
